Full Ingredients

Aqua (Water), Magnesium Chloride, Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate.

If you've used topical magnesium before, you may already know the feeling.

You apply it and suddenly think: “Erm... is this supposed to tingle?”

A mild tingling or prickling sensation can sometimes occur when concentrated magnesium chloride products are applied to the skin. Importantly, however, don't use the intensity of that tingle as a DIY magnesium-deficiency test. How a topical product feels can be affected by its concentration, your skin condition, where you've applied it and individual sensitivity. It also doesn't mean that “the more it tingles, the more it's working.”

What should you do?

If the sensation is mild, BetterYou advises that the product can be massaged into the skin and, because application has already taken place, excess product can subsequently be towelled away if desired. You may also find certain areas of the body more comfortable than others. But there's an important difference between a mild temporary tingle and genuine irritation.

If your skin becomes particularly uncomfortable, painful, very red or irritated, wash the product off and discontinue use. And avoid freshly shaved, broken or otherwise irritated skin in the first place.
