Magnesium flakes vs epsom salts - are they the same thing?
It's one of the easiest mistakes to make when shopping for a magnesium bath. Magnesium flakes and Epsom salts aren't actually the same product.
Magnesium flakes = magnesium chloride
These BetterYou flakes contain magnesium chloride, sourced from the Zechstein mineral deposits. Magnesium chloride generally forms irregular, translucent flakes that dissolve readily when added to water.
Epsom salts = magnesium sulphate
Traditional Epsom salts are made from magnesium sulphate. So although both contain magnesium and both are commonly added to baths, their chemical composition is different.
